Just a warning!
This is going to be a loooooooooooooooong post!
So many things happened in just one day!
We came across this emu 'belting' up the road. We had just turned off the highway near the old Mumbannar School house and a few kms up the road we saw a dot in the distance, as we came closer we could see the emu, heading somewhere with a great purpose. We clocked him/her running between 40km & 50km for several kilometres. It did not falter or stop until it finally found some flat ground off the road by the pines.
We were very impressed with it's stamina!
Finally found some ground off the road and still it thundered on at 40km
We were very impressed Emu!
Here is some Aussie bush at its best!
We also some more wildlife
Don't know what type of bird it is, but it's very cute and colourful.
We headed up the track to the cabin that Ross built!
Set high on the river bank, luckily because late last year the river flooded and rose higher than they had ever seen before.
Here'tis - the cabin that Ross built!
Here'tis - the cabin that Ross built!
Ross built the cabin first stage without a bathroom
Here's stage 2!
Very impressive - will see how much it has improved!
Below - catering facilities!
And the famous "Loo with a View"
No longer is use - can't work out why.....
With a view like this and you sit and ..... ponder :)
We all wandered down at one stage or another to appreciated the beautiful Aussie scenery.
Allan and Rick - check out the debris in the fork of the tree, the river left it behind at its peak.
Michelle and Karen
Ross has built a landing for the fishing poles - the steps down to the landing were washed away in the flood
And a few more shots of this beautiful spot.
Then it was time to return to the cabin for the cook up.
But before that we had a couple of visitors, of the four legged kind and WILD, man these beasts are wild!
Ross was once a jackaroo in the outback of SA and I think NT and has still has a soft spot for horses. These two horses, both now about 30 years old, were saved from an untimely end by Ross and he offered to take them to spend their days out roaming his property.
I'm sure they are eternally grateful and they think they are now part of the family. The roan is an old racehorse and the white an Andalusian dancing horse in his prime
I've never met such calm, peaceful and friendly horses.
This one was coming to check out the menu
They were eventually happy to have some bread, that's after Karen managed to save the BBQ sauce.
Then down the track to the river for a drink
So the meat went on the plate
We enjoyed a delicious lunch
Pondered over the fire
Then Ross spotted something in the gum tree HIGH HIGH up in the gum tree.
He spotted this little critter, how I don't know, he was well camoflaged. A big healthy Koala!
Then the horses came back!
For one last pat.
Shelle put the billy on.
We had our cuppa, cleaned up and packed up just in time to beat the sun shower of rain!
We drove back to the high ground through rain.
When we arrived...
It looked something like this! Something magnificent.
Hmmm, I'm thinkin' - Does God live here?
A beautiful rainbow to end a beautiful day.
Thanks Rosco and Karen for sharing your little bit of paradise xx
