Grandparents Day at St Martins

I don't know who enjoys it more, but we sure have a lot of fun.  We visit each classroom and check out their desks and work books and the modern way of teaching with 'smartboards'.

Then the kids go back to class and the Grands have a wonderful morning tea!

SOME HOW I MISSED BLOGGING GRANDPARENTS DAY

Grandparents Day is one of the most favourite days on the school calendar. After worship the choir performs especially for our grandparents and other special friends and visitors to the college. Baie is part of the choir and is difficult to see as she is in the second row and not elevated!
In the past I was photographer for the whole school. That role has diminished over the years since the girls started school.

Now I'm Nan and participate in all the fun including class visits and a scrummy morning tea and mostly just take photos of us :)

This year we did some beading in the Reception Class.

I told stories about the "Olden Days" to Baie's class. One of the boys asked if I had ever been in trouble and I had to confess that ONCE I was in big trouble. The kids laughed at my story and enjoyed the fact that Mrs P from the office who you don't mess with was in trouble at school :) (only once mind you!!!)

Baie's powerpoint project on Japan - Grandad was soooooooooooooo impressed!

Lots of fun in Tulle's class, joining in the lesson time!

And she's not too sure about Grandad's skills!

Aye Me Hearties - Christmas Parade 2010

Tulle marched with an older member of the dance studio, holding the number 12. Rori was on the Community Bank pirate ship along with another 60 or so St Martins kids. After we created the Ark and ran with it for five years, it ended up back in the hands of the City Council and they did an awesome job of restoring and revamping (the Ark looked like it had sat on the side of Mount Ararat for a long while when it was rescued!) to come out the other side a brand new pirate ship.

We had no trouble drumming up pirates, kids big and small love to be pirates AAARGH!!!

Rori and one of her bestest friends James trying to look really mean :)

And the gang or mean looking critters!

More to come..................

PROLIFIC

Miss Pippi was rewarded with a congratulations and certificate from the Principal and Head of Primary before Book Week celebrations commenced last Friday.

She is a prolific reader and writer of her own stories. She's been a "Book Chook" since she first laid eyes on a book as a baby and it has all paid off!

Baie (aka Pippi Longstocking) was awarded a CREDIT for her writing in the National ICAS competitions. She was competing against kids a year older than her, so the credit is more the special - well done Honey BB

SCHOOL PHOTOS 2010

For me it's photo number 20 at St Martins

The first of the three girls at school together.
And the opportunity to sneak one in with my girls.
Not every Nanna goes to school with the kids each day :)

RORI'S FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

She looked adorable with pigtails and beautiful blue ribbons in her hair!

Her big sisters looked adorable too.
In fact they were jumping for joy to be starting school again!

Well, one was jumping for joy and the other was rather coy! Here Rori and her class are on their little orientation walk around the school with teacher.
And about to enter my office to be introduced to us all.
Rori didn't need much orientating - she knows her way around the campus as well as anyone :)

V for VICTORY

The last time we had a Staff v Students game it was basketball, my all time favourite sport as a young fit thing! I played, we won, I didn't walk for a week!

I vowed NEVER to do the Staff v Student thing EVER EVER EVER AGAIN!

2009 was the year of the Staff v Students cricket match - couldn't resist and had a ball! Still walking, but I'll reserve judgement until tomorrow!
No, it wasn't West Indies v Aussies, we were both on the same team - that's me and Walter and our VICTORY sign - the kids were not happy - but we were!

The kids' whispered, here's Mrs P, this will be a wicket!!! Hee Hee Hee, little did they know I've two sons that I had to bowl for and bat with for many years!!

The victorious team - isn't just great beating a team of 11 and 12 year olds - FEELS GOOD!!!

CATCH UP BLOGS

I've been away awhile so the catch up posts will not be in any semblance of order. Starting with a POM - yep still going with the poms but have decided it's physically impossible for me to keep up with one a day, so I'll aim for one a week with the occasional bonus - a bonus for who you ask? You of course!

This is me and a newish student from Argentina, his name is Santi (short for Santiago) and he's a sweetheart. We spend a couple of hours a week together, me helping him with English and me improving my very basic Spanish. Scrabble is a bit of a challenge and occasionally I allow him to use a Spanish word, but only if I know what the word is! Santi has graduated from 2 and 3 letter words to a 4 letter average and occasionally 5 and 6. As you can see the Spanish dictionary is still needed when charades and a drawing for explanation just doesn't cut it :)

THE START OF THE 2009 SCHOOL YEAR WAS....

EXCITING FOR......
Tulle and Baie................looked so sweet and fresh in their new uniforms and big blue ribbons in their hair.
The flash failed when I took this shot just before worship commenced, so had to do some doctoring, so this is the best result I could come up with.

INTERESTING FOR......
.....some. 2 Mums needed assistance for flat batteries and 3 of our teachers came to the rescue with their car and jumper leads - well done boys! - Photo taken through the fly screen of the office!

EXHAUSTING FOR ME! - I think I'm just getting too old to work - well that's how I felt this afternoon, luckily the feeling has passed.

It was just one of those days! Arrived early to find a mother and daughter waiting in the reception area - I asked "Are you waiting to see someone"? "No" mother answered, "We're waiting for the uniform shop to open". My answer "The uniform shop isn't open on Mondays". (The only day of the week the uniform shop is not open!). But off to the uniform shop we went to kit out daughter - I was meant to be at band rehearsal at that time :#

It was hot, the service was about 20 minutes longer than normal, my shoe choice for the day was ridiculous (I worked that out at about 8:20am!) my feet were hurting already and......"We'd only just begun" hmmm sounds like a good title for a song :). Sang in the band, photographed the installation service, gave a welcome and bible reading to one of the new staff and so the day continued and between a 7 year old with a blood nose that lasted almost an hour, a couple of ice packs, a teenager vomiting all over herself (don't even ask how that came about!), a visit from my cabinetmaker, a call from the builder and a couple from husband, managed to get some work done. A dash to the tile place at 4pm meant I had to go back to the office to clear up and finally home to trade husband a back rub for a foot rub :) - sorry no photo!
