NOW IN VINALHAVEN MAINE USA

We had a dream trip from JFK to Portland Maine, took a taxi to the bus depot and caught the bus to Rockland hoping to arrive in time to catch the last ferry to VINALHAVEN, unfortunately the bus was late and we missed the ferry. Just to top things off, the bus had. Even gone 10 minutes or so when I realised that I had my back pack but not my little black bag that had my wallet, glasses and PASSPORTS inside! After a bit of a panic and a lot of help from the guys at the ferry terminal we had made contact with the bus company and had made loose arrangements to have it returned the next morning (hopefully)! So we caught the ferry to North Haven, another island that was close enough to Vinalhaven to catch a dingy to cross over. Fortunately our fiends Steve and Alice were there to meet and greet us and it was such a relief to see them!

The state of Maine is green and beautiful with hundreds of islands and beautiful New England style houses. Steve and Alice lice on the waterfront in an old house over one hundred years old, the views are post card perfect, eventually I will upload photos!

First day was misty with rain, but warm enough with not a breath of wind, so the rain did not matter much at all. Allan and Steve were up super early to phone the bus company about the missing bag. Fortunately they did because someone had gone looking and come back empty handed! Steve asked them to go back to the bus and take one more look with specific instructions from Allan, exactly where we were seated etc. and there it was under the seat, Hallelujah Praise The Lord! And it was returned to us later in the morning. Small communities are a wonderful thing, the bag was sent back via a two hour bus journey, delivered to John in the ferry terminal who then handed it it the skipper do the ferry who then handed it to Allan! What a relief, the bag had my glasses, our passports, US$200, $200 Canadian, $100 Aussie, AMEX Card and MasterCard!!

So our first morning was busy with Allan going to the warf for a load out of lobster with Steve. Alice and I went in a 5km walk to raise money for the local emergency department, there were also a running and cycling events. We had a fabulous evening and dinner with a group of Steve and Alice's friends to finish our day. Allan is spending the day fishing for the famous Maine lobster with Steve tomorrow and I get to take a tour do the Vinalhaven K to 12 school.
