ANZAC 2012

How can we even begin to imagine what it was like on the shores of Gallipoli?

The ANZAC biscuit, as it is known today, not sure what it was called during the war, was a welcome addition to the basic rations which were issued to Commonwealth soldiers during the Gallipoli Campaign in 1915.

Each year I bake a batch, have a cuppa and a 'chewy' ANZAC to in honour of our Diggers.

Mothers, wives and sweethearts at home baked these treats for the men at the front, as well as for sale to raise funds for the war effort.  I can only imagine what it would have been like for our Diggers to receive this little sweet biscuit all the way from home and baked with such love and hope that they would return.
