Our National Day - Australia Day

A gorgeous day at our city's beautiful Cave Gardens, right in the centre of town and the perfect spot for Australia Day breakfast and concert. Mount Gambier really is a beautiful city. It was great to see young and old dressed for the occasion with lots of Aussie flags fluttering in the breeze - and can you believe it - NO FLIES.... Hmm that's a touch un-Australian I think, but they were not missed at all.

The girls were right in on the occasion with their Aussie teeshirts, face painting and flags. We all enjoyed the entertainment, awards and even the speeches. It was great to sing all the old colonial Aussie songs as well as our more modern songs and my favourite "We are Australian". Baie's favourite "Give me a home among the gum trees" was sung on and off for the rest of the day.

We did a lot more "Australian Things" during the day - some things are just too Australian to miss, like and icecream at Badenochs (if you are not a local but plan on a visit, make sure you ask directions to Badenochs for an ice cream); picked apricots off the tree in the back yard (more photos to come); down to the beach for a surf - the girls caught some great waves (sorry no photos) and tea at the club (local Pt Mac Donnell Football Club), you can't beat tea at the club.
